Project
delivering economic assessment and social analysis to support outdoor concert band shells
Year 2023

CHALLENGE

Winarch Capital sought to enhance Sydney's cultural and entertainment offerings. They approached Sound Diplomacy to collaborate on a project involving the construction of three bandshells in Sydney—outdoor stages with shell-shaped roofs.

The project aimed to demonstrate the economic and social benefits of building these bandshells. Sound Diplomacy provided social impact indicators, aligning the project with key policies in Sydney to showcase its value and assist in political lobbying. Additionally, an economic impact forecast highlighted the positive effects the bandshells would have on the local economy.

strategy

Before work began, Sound Diplomacy and Winarch Capital worked together to gain a true understanding of the opportunity, challenges, and impact of the project.

  • Social Impact Indicators

We developed metrics to measure the social value and impact of building the bandshells, demonstrating their contribution to community well-being.

  • Policy Alignment

We analysed five key policies in Sydney to illustrate how the project aligns with the city's objectives, facilitating political support and highlighting the policy benefits.

  • Economic Impact Forecast

We conducted an assessment to quantify the economic value generated by the bandshells, considering construction and operational phases. This provided insights into revenue generation, tourism impact, and local spending.

  • Case Studies

We examined successful projects such as the Levitt Institute in the US and the Rady Shell in San Diego to provide valuable insights and best practices.

Findings & outcomes

Sound Diplomacy's internal report to Winarch Capital and Hatch was transformed into an external document, which was shared with stakeholders for lobbying purposes.

Negotiation for the proposed bandshells is still ongoing and Sound Diplomacy continues to work with Winarch Capital, solidifying their partnership for future endeavours.
