This project was designed to assess the studio market in England prior to COVID-19 and provide an overview of the current situation (as of 2021).

By looking into factors such as geographical distribution, market composition, and impacts on community and industry, we provided DCMS with a detailed understanding of England’s studio market and the challenges and opportunities that were being faced.

A bespoke methodology for mapping all studios, rehearsal spaces and production facilities was created - the first time this had ever been done in the England. In total, 2,482 studios were recorded and mapped - 1,858 open and 624 closed.

The report and its recommendations have since been widely supported by key music industry stakeholders, including the Association of Independent Music, Association of Independent Rehearsal and Recording Studios, UK Music and Music Producers Guild.
